About the project and challenges

Standing in a stunning, elevated position in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, these two former barns (The Old Dairy, ref W44255 and Fell View, ref UK30189) have enviable views across Alston Moor and the beautiful, unspoilt South Tyne Valley. Perched on the Cumbria/Northumberland border, the traditional features and generously proportioned rooms make these ideal choices for families and friends looking for a comfortable and well-equipped Home from home.

Their peaceful, rural location makes it feel off the beaten track and yet it is just 2 miles from Alston and just off the Alston to Penrith road, which connects you to the Lake District National Park. There is a network of public footpaths direct from the doorstep, linking up to numerous trails and cycle routes. The archaeological remains of Whitley Castle (Roman fort), described as the ’hidden gem of the North Pennines’, is a stone’s throw from the property. Leadgate Holiday Cottages are perfectly situated as a touring base for exploring a wealth of natural and historical treasures in the area. Hadrian’s Wall is only a short drive away, with the Scottish Border and the Lake District approximately 25 miles.
