About the project and challenges

We converted these old stables into a wonderful holiday let, it was part of a larger project developing a derelict manor house and the outbuildings.

Coachman’s Country Cottage is a unique and characterful cottage in the quaint country village of Melmerby. This beautifully appointed one-bedroomed cottage features a cobbled courtyard, a wealth of beams and vaulted ceiling, with spectacular fell views from the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows in the garden room. This is a true romantic getaway with a private garden, patio and a superb hot tub to enjoy the stunning views by day and the twinkling stars by night.

Surrounded by llamas, ponies and wildlife, it has a real ’wow’ factor with vaulted ceilings and amazing views. The cosy underfloor heating is complemented by a wood burner for that romantic night by the fire. The luxurious and quirky beamed bathroom features a slipper bath and French-style basin, en-suite to the bedroom. This gorgeous bedroom with brass bed, French armoire and mood lighting, features a huge, original, stone fireplace with inset large flat screen TV.

The main living room also features an old stone fireplace complete with original Victorian set pot, historically used by the manor house servants for the laundry, and above the log store sits a 65" wall-mounted Smart TV that is viewed from the huge Chesterfield sofa opposite.

The beautifully appointed kitchen simply exudes charm and character with beamed, vaulted ceiling, hand painted units with a large range cooker and oak worktops with double sink. The garden room is open plan to the main living room and is complete with a large comfy sofa where you can relax and enjoy the fantastic views over the surrounding countryside.

Melmerby is a lovely, quiet and peaceful little village with picturesque village green and boasts a quaint tea shop, village bakery with eatery and gift shop, antique shop, pub and village hall. There is also a private swimming pool that can be booked independently, just 100 yards away from the cottage.

The area is good for lovely walks with Melmerby Fell close by. Situated on the A686, which runs from Penrith to Corbridge, chosen by the AA magazine as one of the ’Ten Greatest Drives’. From Melmerby, the road climbs the Hartside Pass from where you will get magnificent views across the Solway Firth to Scotland.
